Former Gopher Isaac Fruechte Hoping To Make The Cut With Vikings

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Vikings are constantly looking for help -- especially in someone that can do something unique. Isaac Fruechte is just looking for an opportunity to play in the NFL.

He grew up in Caledonia and played for the Gophers, and now he hopes his next team is again from his home state.

"It's pretty awesome," Fruechte said. "Hopefully I can make the team and then be really wearing purple for the year."

He has avid followers in Caledonia -- his father is a high school coach there. Back home, having Fruechte practice with the Vikings is a big deal.

"It's pretty nuts back there. Everybody loves the Vikings," Fruechte said. "It's a great time to be a Viking right now."

He could be following in the footsteps of another Minnesota athlete gone pro for his hometown team: Adam Thielen, of Detroit Lakes.

Fruechte says the opportunity has been a whirlwind, and that's just fine for a kid who just wants a shot.

"It's just been really crazy," Fruechte said. "Like I said, it's been nuts, but this is a good nuts."

He says he's hoping to prove his stripes in the upcoming five preseason games, but only time will tell.
