Fmr. Sen. Boschwitz Backs Marco Rubio

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Rudy Boschwitz is endorsing Republican presidential hopeful Marco Rubio in advance of Minnesota's caucuses on Super Tuesday.

In a statement Saturday, Boschwitz said Rubio is the strongest candidate Republicans have to win in November.

Boschwitz says the Florida senator has "a firm grasp of key issues and a strong commitment to conservative principles."

Boschwitz is the latest Minnesota Republican politician to endorse Rubio, who held a rally in Minneapolis this past week. Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman and U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen also have recently endorsed him.

Rubio and Ted Cruz are battling to emerge as the strongest alternative to GOP front-runner Donald Trump. Minnesota is one of 12 states casting votes for presidential hopefuls on Super Tuesday March 1.
