Sheriff: Fisherman Struck By Lightning In Hackensack, 2 Others Injured

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A fisherman is in the hospital after being struck by lightning in Hackensack, according to the Cass County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Tom Burch says his office received a report of a fisherman being struck by lightning on Baby Lake in rural Hackensack at 10:38 a.m. Sunday.

Upon arrival, emergency responders found three people had been in a boat when one was struck by lightning. That victim was taken via helicopter to a Twin Cities hospital.

The other two were taken by ambulance to the Brainerd Hospital.

According to a spokeperson at Sunset Bay Resort, the three people on the boat were a father and two sons from Iowa. She said the father was struck by lightning after the storm came in without warning.

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Wei Wei.

The spokeswoman said the sons remained calm and got their father to the shore where he was airlifted to the hospital. She said Wei was up and walking Sunday night, but had significant burns on his body.

The father's exact condition is unknown at this point.
