First Avenue Remains Closed, Entire Ceiling To Be Replaced

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Iconic Minneapolis nightclub First Avenue remains closed more than a week after part of the ceiling collapsed.

Five people were hurt when a 30-foot section of the ceiling fell on concert goers last Wednesday.

Owners of the club had hoped they would be back in business by this weekend, but must now stay closed to replace the entire ceiling.

After an inspection a decision was made Wednesday to replace the club's entire main room ceiling instead of just the section that fell, the Star Tribune reports.

The next event in the main room was Tuesday's Psychedelic Furs and The Church show. The concert has now been moved to the State Theater.

All events in the dance room and the Record Room will also be canceled through next week.

The other venues attached to the club, 7th Street Entry and the Depot Tavern, reopened last weekend.

All of those injured have since recovered.
