Firefighters Rescue Man From Mpls. Grain Bin

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- It took firefighters from a special rescue unit hours to reach a man who had fallen 60 feet in an empty grain bin in Minneapolis.

According to fire crews, the man fell into a silo located near Thomas and Glenwood Avenues around 11 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said the man and two others were exploring in the grain bins when the victim fell. The other two were not hurt.

After roughly two hours, technical personnel reached him and he was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with a broken jaw and other serious injuries. He was not identified.

Similar incidents have happened at this location in the past. In October 2005, a teenager fell seven stories and was rescued after three hours. But the next year, two people died in separate incidents after falling from the same building.
