'Firefighters For Healing' Spread Holiday Cheer At HCMC

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A group of people who know the dangers of fire are helping spread cheer this holiday season.

With their sirens blazing, this special group of firefighters responded to a different type of call for help at Hennepin County Medical Center. The group "Firefighters for Healing" supports patients and their caregivers at the hospital's burn center.

The unit helps people who've suffered burns or lost personal items in fires get back on their feet. On Tuesday, they delivered gifts and unveiled a special family room.

"There's no words to describe that. It completes the circle in happiness for me and our team," Jake LaFerriere with Firefighters for Healing said. "It's a beautiful thing to put a smile on a little one's face like that."

More toys and personal items will be delivered to some of the burn center's outpatient kids as well. The firefighters are also launching a burn camp this summer in Cross Lake.
