Firefighters Contain Smoky Parking Ramp Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A University of Minnesota Twin Cities spokesman says a smoky fire in a parking ramp on campus has been contained.

Spokesman Matt Hodson says three vehicles ignited on the upper level of a parking ramp at Fairview University Medical Center Tuesday, sending a black cloud of smoke into the air. Hodson says Minneapolis firefighters have the fire under control and no one has been hurt.

He says university police were among the first responders. What caused the vehicles to ignite was not immediately known, but the Minneapolis Fire Department says the fire apparently started in the engine compartment of one of the vehicles.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials said it likely started in the engine of one of the vehicles. Officials with the Minneapolis Fire Department said extreme cold and smoky conditions made it difficult to battle the fire.
