Teen boy dead, man injured in north Minneapolis shooting

Minneapolis police say they are investigating after a teenage boy was killed and a man was injured in a shooting Thursday evening.

According to police, officers were called to the 1300 block of 18th Avenue North around 5:30 p.m. When they arrived on scene, officers found a 16-year-old boy with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers attempted life-saving measures, but the boy died at the scene.

Police say that a 44-year-old man, who was in the area, was also shot but suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man drove his car to a nearby gas station at West Broadway and Knox Avenue North. Police arrived at that scene and provided medical aid before the man was transported to a local hospital.

"This is another heartbreaking act of violence that has left a young person dead, another individual wounded, and families suffering unimaginable pain," said Police Chief Brian O'Hara. "Our investigators are working urgently to determine exactly what happened and to identify every person responsible for this violence."

Officers are investigating if the two victims have any connection. Police have not said whether or not a suspect is in custody.

Police are asking anyone with information to submit an anonymous tip online to Crime Stoppers, or call 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
