2 Killed In Head-On Crash Near Orono
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Hennepin County authorities are investigating a head-on crash that killed two people Friday morning near Orono.
It happened on Highway 12 west of County Road 6 just before 7 a.m.
Orono Deputy Police Chief Chris Fischer says one driver was dead at the scene. The other driver was airlifted from the scene, but was subsequently pronounced dead.
"We did recover a couple cell phones, and we'll do search warrants on those to see what that might tell us," Fischer said.
He said while he's been to accidents on Highway 12, it's not known as being a dangerous road.
"I don't think it's particularly a bad stretch of road, I mean, I've been to crashes there before, but anecdotally I don't think it's that bad," he said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
