Pillager Resident Vernon Hedquist Killed In I-94 Crash Near Rogers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Pillager man is dead after he was struck by a Ford F-150 truck that was rear-ended by a semi-truck on Interstate 94 Tuesday afternoon.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the fatal crash happened at about 2:10 p.m. on I-94 at County Road 81.

Investigators say the F-150, which was hauling a trailer, was driving eastbound on I-94 when it started to slow down due to traffic ahead.

A semi-truck behind the F-150 then plowed into it, causing it to spin into a construction lane, striking a Chevrolet Silverado and a construction truck, which were both parked.

The F-150 and the trailer struck two pedestrians: 59-year-old Vernon Carl Hedquist of Pillager, and 64-year-old Thomas John Wood of Maple Grove. Hedquist was killed, and Wood suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The identities of the two drivers involved in the crash have not been released. The state patrol is investigating.
