Man Dead In 1-Vehicle Crash Along University Ave. In Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) –One man is dead after a one-vehicle crash along University Avenue SE in Minneapolis' Prospect Park neighborhood.

According to the Minneapolis Police Department, just before 1:30 p.m. officers responded to a call of a one-car crash on the 3000 block of University Avenue SE.

Upon arrival, police found a man lying on the sidewalk in very critical condition. A car was located nearby with no one in it. The driver's door had become dislodged in the crash.

Through further investigation, police believe the driver was speeding in the wrong direction when he hit a curb, then a light pole and was ejected from the car.

The car continued, with nobody in it, and hit a gas meter on the side of a day care.

The man was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center where he later died. His identity has not been released.

Minneapolis Police and Minnesota State Patrol are investigating.
