1 Killed In Car Accident In Coon Rapids

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – One person was killed in a car crash early Wednesday morning near Coon Rapids.

According to the Minnesota State patrol, just before 2 a.m. a Ford Crown Victoria was traveling east on Highway 10 near University Avenue when it struck a unoccupied, stalled car on the right shoulder.

The 30-year-old female passenger was killed on the scene. She will be identified upon notification of family members.

Troopers said the 29-year-old driver had alcohol in his system. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 10 has been closed and is not expected to open until after 7 a.m.

The case of will be referred to the Anoka County Attorney's Office for formal charges. The identity of the driver will be released once charges are filed.

The crash remains under investigation.
