Faribault Tennis Coach Finishes Marathon Of Matches
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The head coach of the Faribault girls tennis team is proud, and as he describes it, "hurting all over." He likely broke a world record.
Darren Iverson took to the court early Friday morning and played through the rain and today's cold wind. He wrapped up around 7:30 p.m. Saturday after 35 consecutive matches.
He did it to set a new Guinness World Record, which previously stood at 33.
Iverson is the coach of the Faribault girls's tennis team.
At some points he didn't know if he'd finish, but says thanks to the support from his players, friends and community, he was able to power through.
"We wanted to do something that would be a shot in the arm to Faribault tennis," Iverson recently told WCCO. "There's a really nice base of players and we want to increase the volume at our facility and raise some money to build a tennis shed."
Iverson hopes this marathon helps draw players for Faribault's summer programs and promotes the health benefits you get from playing tennis.
It'll be a few weeks before he knows if he officially set the new record.
