Fairmont Man Turns 100, Reveals Secret To Staying Young

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Herbie Haertel of Fairmont, Minn. celebrated his 100th birthday on Saturday.

"I was born July 26, 1914," Haertel said.

He served our country during World War II, and recently received a special letter from President Obama.

And as he reaches this special milestone, he's got a special secret – exercise!

After 10 pushups, he's just getting warmed up.

"Things to do, things to do to keep you going," he said.

It's all part of a workout routine this 112-pound frame does at Goldfinch Assisted Living on a weekly basis.

"Just because I want to keep going," Haertel laughed.

Going and going, to stay forever young.
