Extra Security Precautions & Officers In Fairmont Schools After Threat

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Fairmont police say a threat posted to an anonymous internet application, Yik Yak, has prompted extra security precautions and officers in area schools this week.

On Saturday, police say they received a report about the single non-specific threat toward a school that would take place Monday. The comment did not reference a specific school or community.

In response, Fairmont police "has been coordinating with area schools and law enforcement to provide security precautions in addition to standard security protocols practiced daily." There will also be extra officer presence.

Police are now working with internet providers to try and identify who is responsible for the threat. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fairmont police at 507-238-4481.

A reward of $500 is offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the threat.
