Experts: Smartphone Kill Switch Could Backfire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota's U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar has been pushing legislation in Washington to require a "kill switch" in cell phones. Now, smartphone makers and carriers have agreed to add optional kill switches on their own by next summer.

The FCC says stolen cell phones account for nearly one-third of all robberies in the U.S. But some experts say the new security measure could open a back door to even more data and identity theft.
