Excellent Educator: Lisa Rutman Of District 196

EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) -- This morning, the WCCO Morning Show is honoring another excellent educator in the metro who has gone above and beyond to make a difference in students' lives.

This week, Edward Moody got to surprise Lisa Rutman, who works within School District 196. Rutman has been a social worker in schools for 12 years.

She splits her time between several schools in the Rosemount, Apple Valley and Eagan School District. Moody caught up with here at Woodland Elementary School in Eagan.

Rutman also runs a "Kindness Club" before school, where she works with kids on their friendship skills. She is a big advocate on making schools bully-free.

Rutman says when she runs into kids she knows in the community they call her the "Peace Lady."

"I really think our kids learn academics and we work hard on academics, but to really be successful good people we need to teach them social skills and problem-solving skills and to respect themselves and others," she said. "I'm blessed to be a role where I can nurture that and be there for them, and when kids are having trouble I can be there for them."

You can nominate a deserving educator by going to the WCCO Morning Show's Facebook page, telling us their name and why they should be WCCO's Excellent Educator of the week.
