Ex-Mayor Of Wis. Town Facing 2 Felony Misconduct Charges

CEDARBURG, Wis. (AP) — A former mayor of Cedarburg is accused of using his position as a registered notary public to try to get his 19-year-old daughter out of an underage drinking ticket.

Keith Kaiman has been charged with two felony counts of misconduct in office. A criminal complaint alleges Kaiman notarized two statements obtained by his daughter in an effort to beat an underage drinking citation from June 2013.

The complaint says prosecutors assigned to his daughter's trial received four witness statements suggesting she was innocent of the violation. It says the witnesses later admitted to investigators that Kaiman's daughter asked them to sign off on false statements prepared by her father.

The complaint says the witnesses reported that Kaiman wasn't present even though the documents reflected otherwise.

Kaiman declined to comment Monday to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
