Escaped Patient Returned To Minnesota Security Hospital

ST. PETER, Minn. (AP) — A patient is back at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter after escaping during an outing to a Mankato mall.

The Department of Human Services says 45-year-old Patrick Ryan Grande was found around 11:30 p.m. Friday in Mankato.

Police Cmdr. Matt DuRose says Grande apparently walked away from hospital staffers just after 6 p.m.

The Department of Human Services says in a statement that Grande posed no danger to the public. It says patients are often allowed community outings in the later stages of treatment if they don't display dangerous behavior.

Court records say Grande was committed as mentally ill and dangerous in 1993 after an aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to a year in prison in 2014 for failing to return after he was given a day pass.
