EEOC: Superior's Stack Bros. Will Pay $140K Settlement

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission says Stack Bros. Mechanical Contractors of Superior has agreed to pay $140,000 to settle an age discrimination and retaliation lawsuit.

Stack Bros. is a major heating and plumbing contractor in northwestern Wisconsin and northeastern Minnesota. The EEOC said in a statement Friday that the company discriminated against two employees by firing them when they turned 62 last year.

Julianne Bowman, director of the EEOC's Chicago District, says both employees repeatedly warned Stack Bros.' owner his plan to fire them when they turned 62 was illegal, but he refused to relent. She says he also retaliated against one of the employees for her complaints by denying her a raise, suspending her without pay and creating a hostile work environment while waiting for her to turn 62.
