'No Helmet, No Ride' Aims To Educate Kids On Importance Of Helmets

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Twin Cities mother is trying to get more kids to wear helmets when they skateboard or ride bikes.

Mary Barsness' son Willi Bosch fractured his skull in a skateboarding accident almost two years ago.

He was not wearing a helmet.

Bosch had to learn to talk and walk again.

Barsness has now teamed up with the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance for the "No Helmet, No Ride" Program. The program helps make wearing helmets the norm and not the exception by telling stories such as Bosch's in classrooms.

If your school or community organization would like to have a presentation from the "No Helmet No Ride" program, call 612-378-2742.

The program is also trying to raise money to help low income families get helmets. To make a donation, visit the Brain Injury Alliance online.
