Edina Home Damaged In Recreational Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say an Edina home is uninhabitable after it was damaged by a recreational fire Saturday morning.

The Edina Fire Department was called at about 10:13 a.m. Saturday to a report of a house fire on the 6900 block of Moccasin Valley Road. When firefighters arrived, they discovered a working structure fire with heavy flames coming from the garage of a three-story home.

Fire crews were able to get the blaze contained as it was mainly in the garage, but extensive smoke damage to the home has made it uninhabitable. Authorities said nobody was hurt in the fire.

Fire officials said the blaze was likely caused by carelessly discarded ashes from a recreational fire. The Edina Fire Department was assisted at the scene by departments from Bloomington, Eden Prairie, Richfield and St. Louis Park.
