Eden Prairie Police: 2 Die From Heroin Overdose, 1 Saved Due To Naloxone
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Eden Prairie police say two people are dead after overdosing on heroin in the past month. Meanwhile, police say another person who overdosed was saved by a heroin antidote.
According to police, all of the victims were young adults in their 20s. In the case of the survivor, first responders were able to administer Naloxone, which is a medication that reverses the effects of heroin – saving the victim's life.
All Eden Prairie police officers and firefighters were trained in the fall to administer Naloxone. The antidote works by "counteracting the life-threatening depression of the central nervous system and respiratory system, allowing an overdose victim to breathe normally", police say.
