Duluth Police Officer Arrested For Domestic Assault

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say an officer with the Duluth Police Department was arrested Sunday afternoon on suspicion of domestic assault.

Todd Kuusisto, 37, was arrested at about 3:31 p.m. Sunday for fifth-degree misdemeanor domestic assault at the Public Safety Building in Duluth. Authorities responded to a 911 call of an erratic driver early Sunday morning in the area of Highway 35 and Midway Road. While responding, a deputy was flagged down by an adult female standing near the side of the road.

Authorities say the woman appeared to have injuries. An investigation showed there was probable cause to arrest Kuusisto. The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office said the domestic assault took place early Sunday morning outside the Duluth city limits in a non-incorporated area of St. Louis County.

Kuusisto has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a full investigation. His police powers have been revoked. He was hired by the Duluth Police Department in 2004 and works as an officer in the patrol division.

He is currently booked in the St. Louis County jail and bail has not been set. The incident remains under investigation.
