Drivers Beware: Snow Is Coming For The Evening Commute

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Light snow is expected to fall Monday on much of central Minnesota – and just in time for the evening commute.

WCCO meteorologist Matt Brickman said the snow is moving in from the northwest and will swing down over much of north-central and central Minnesota.

Flakes could start falling in the Twin Cities metro around 4 p.m., and they could continue falling until 7 p.m.

As for totals, don't expect much.

"We're looking at a half-inch here in the Twin Cities," Brickman said.

Still, transportation officials are advising drivers to take it easy.

They warn that salt doesn't work as well in single-digit temperatures and that the threat of black ice is most common at night.

MnDOT says crews pretreated metro bridges, ramps, tunnels and other areas where black ice typically forms.

In greater Minnesota, crews will treat roads as necessary.
