Driver With 2 Felony Warrants, No Insurance Broadsides Big Lake Officer

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Big Lake police officer is recovering after being involved in a broadside crash Sunday evening.

According to a post on the Big Lake Police Department's Facebook page, Officer Chris Hoard was stopped on Industrial Drive near Highway 10 awaiting a vehicle that had been reportedly driving recklessly. While Hoard was waiting, a Toyota van traveling westbound on Highway 10 lost control and slid diagonally through the intersection.

The Toyota hit Hoard broadside and both vehicles were pushed into a ditch.

The Big Lake Police Department's post said Officer Hoard will be fine.

No information was given on the condition of the van's driver.

However, the post say the driver of the van had outstanding felony warrants in two states and did not have insurance.

Minnesota State Patrol is currently investigating the crash.
