DPS: Plan A Sober Ride For Fishing Opener

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – As anglers head out for the 2014 Fishing Opener, authorities are sending out a reminder to plan for a sober ride if you plan on drinking this weekend.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said officers will be out in full force Friday in at least 25 counties around the state. Officers are hitting the counties that have had the highest total of drunk driving deaths and alcohol-related injury accidents over the last three years.

DPS officials said the one-day effort is designed to keep motorists safe as they head to Minnesota's lakes to catch their first fish of 2014. The Fishing Opener is officially underway at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

The top three counties that officers will be out at are all in the Twin Cities metro, including Hennepin, Anoka and Ramsey Counties. The three counties combined have 286 drunk driving and alcohol-related serious injury accidents over the last three years.
