Fire Breaks Out At Downtown Minneapolis Post Office

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis firefighters put out a fire overnight at a post office downtown.

This is not the main downtown post office, but the one on 12th Street, near the I-394 exit ramp. It's known as the Loring Station.

Firefighters saw heavy black smoke when they got to the post office Saturday night and called for additional manpower. Crews brought in large fans to try to clear the smoke.

There's no word on whether any mail was damaged.

The United States Postal Service said Sunday that the station will be closed temporarily, with all service and retail operations shifting to the Main Post Office, located on 1st Street in downtown Minneapolis.

Employees of the Loring Station are asked to call 1-888-363-7462 for reporting instructions.
