DNR: Zebra Mussels Confirmed In Big Cormorant Lake

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Department of Natural Resources announced Monday that zebra mussels have been confirmed in Big Cormorant Lake in Minnesota's northwestern Becker County.

Officials say the confirmation comes after a three-day search in which the invasive species was found in three different areas of the lake.

"Although low in numbers, zebra mussels are present and distributed around Big Cormorant Lake, not localized in one area," said Mark Ranweiler, a DNR invasive species specialist, in a statement. "Because zebra mussel discoveries were made in various locations in the lake, treatment does not appear to be an option."

The DNR reminds boaters and anglers to be careful not to spread invasive species.
