DNR Says It's Looking Like A 'Spectacular' Autumn

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - You can already start to feel it a bit outside. Fall is almost here

It's one of the best times of year in Minnesota, in large part because of our beautiful fall colors.

"It's looking like it's going to be a spectacular fall," Minnesota DNR trails communications manager Pat Arndt said.

Arndt said leaf color depends on three things: temperature, day length and moisture.

"Moisture in the trees -- you have to have that early in the summer, which we did," Arndt said. "We're getting the benefits of it now."

Colors tend to peak around mid-September in Northern Minnesota. It's closer to mid- or end-of-October for the southern part of the state.

"Because the temperatures affect it, you might find pockets of color here and there," Arndt said.

With no signs of drought in sight, the leaves should be a sight to see for the next eight weeks.
