DNR: Explosive Fire Conditions In Minnesota
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Most of Minnesota is still in what the Department of Natural Resources calls an "explosive" fire situation.
Two-thirds of the state is under "extreme" fire danger.
The DNR says fires that start under these conditions spread fast, are hard to fight and can cause major damage.
In the rest of the state, the fire danger is categorized as "very high," which means fires can start easily, spread quickly and can be difficult to handle if they have already been burning for a few minutes.
A wildfire in northern Minnesota destroyed about 1,000 acres of land in Hubbard County Friday near Hoyt Lakes. The smoke from what is being called the Skibo wildfire spread south throughout the state, causing hazy conditions and a distinct, smoky smell.
