DNR: Deadline Approaching To Remove Your Ice House
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The deadline for Minnesota's ice fishers to get their shacks off the state's lakes is approaching, though many are doing it earlier, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
DNR officials said the deadline to get ice fishing houses off Minnesota lakes in the southern two-thirds of the state is 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 3. For the northern third of the state, the deadline is Monday, March 17.
The DNR said due to snow, cold and a slow fish bite some ice anglers are getting their shacks off lakes earlier than normal. Conservation officers said ice houses are already being removed in Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, Evansville and Wadena ahead of the deadline.
Those who don't remove their shacks by the deadline are subject to fines and could have their ice houses confiscated and/or destroyed.
