Distracted Driver Gets 1 Year In Minn. Crash That Killed Cyclist Mom

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A former South Dakota National Guardsman has been sentenced to a year in jail for the distracted driving crash that killed a Minnesota cyclist.

Christopher Weber told police he was mobile banking on his cell phone when he hit 33-year-old Andrea Boeve of Steen with his pickup truck last June.

Boeve was riding her bike, pulling her two daughters behind her, when she was struck and killed. Court documents show her 4-year-old suffered a broken rib and punctured lung. Her 1-year-old suffered minor injuries.

Weber will spend a total of 360 days in the Nobles County Jail. He will be released on some weekends to fulfill his obligations with the South Dakota National Guard.

He pleaded guilty in November.
