Disabled Freight Train Disrupts Northstar Commuter Service
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Transit officials said buses had to be brought in Tuesday morning to replace rail service in the northwest metro after Northstar Commuter Rail Lines were disrupted due to a disabled freight train.
Officials said Northstar Link buses are serving stations in Big Lake, Elk River and Ramsey before they head to downtown Minneapolis. Commuters who use the Northstar Rail Line should expect delays throughout the morning.
Metro Transit buses will also serve the Anoka, Coon Rapids and Fridley stations. It's not known how long it will take to get the disabled freight train back up and running to clear the Northstar Commuter Rail Line.
Transit officials said service has resumed at the affected stations, but it's more than 20 minutes behind schedule. The last train to leave Big Lake was 7:42 a.m., 21 minutes behind normal.
