DFL Endorses Lori Swanson For Attorney General

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Democrats have endorsed Lori Swanson for a third term as attorney general.

Swanson won an easy voice vote Saturday. The attorney general then told DFL convention delegates her office takes on some powerful interests. But she says the important thing is not who they're fighting against, it's who they're fighting for. She cited consumers who need health care, senior citizens who need protection against scammers and regular consumers who don't have an army of lawyers to go to bat for them.

Swanson was first elected in 2006, continuing a Democratic lock on the office dating back to the 1970 election.

Minnesota Republicans endorsed state Sen. Scott Newman, of Hutchinson, as her challenger Friday, a day after he entered the race. Brandan Borgos is running on the Independence Party ticket.
