DeRusha Eats: Mick Jagger's Minneapolis Choice – Café Lurcat

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – When Mick Jagger came to town he didn't go out to eat at a trendy, hot new restaurant. He picked a place that's been here a decade.

That's why this Thursday, Jason DeRusha eats at Café Lurcat.

It doesn't get much calmer in the kitchen than head chef Adam King.

"Cooking is very repetitive; do the same thing over and over," King explained.

This Orono kid has cooked at Café Lurcat in Minneapolis since they opened  in 2002.

"For us to be relevant in Minneapolis 13 years later is huge," King said.

Lurcat is still relevant, with food that still excites and feels fresh.

Rolling Stones front man Mick Jagger ordered miso-marinated sea bass when he was in town for his stadium show.

"I think we were all mouth to the floor. This is really happening! It was exciting for the restaurant but at the same time it was exciting that he chose to come here versus anywhere else," Lurcat's General Manager Michelle Jensen said.

Jensen got the call that Jagger wanted to come for dinner. Which turned an ordinary day into a not-so-ordinary one.

"Its' very, very different, there's energy in the restaurant that's very different from the day-to-day," Jensen said.

Lurcat has a large dining room with plenty of spots for a celebrity to have a quiet meal.

It's part of why Prince eats here.

"I think we're a lot quieter with the celebrities. I think it's a more personable experience when we have our regulars and first-time guests, because it is a first time and we're making a first impression," Jensen said. "I think it's more special."

That sea bass has been on the menu since Lurcat opened its doors.

"It's by far our most popular dish. Outsells 3 to 1, and I think around town everyone knows that dish," King said. "If you have something that people like, why change it?"

King graduated with an English literature degree, but he's glad he's not teaching English literature now!
