Deputies Rescue Sick Eagle, Urge Hunters Not To Use Lead Ammo

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A sheriff's department in south central Minnesota says its deputies helped rescued a downed eagle over the weekend.

The Renville County Sheriff's Office posted on its Facebook page Saturday that it came to the aid of a bald eagle that likely had lead poisoning, due to the green coloring on some of the bird's feathers and feces.

The bird of prey will be brought to the Minnesota Raptor Center for treatment.

In the Facebook posting, the sheriff's office urged that hunters not use lead-based ammunition, as eagles are scavengers and might get sick while feeding on a carcass.
