Delta Air Lines Introducing Luggage Tracking App

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Soon you'll be able to track your checked bag from MSP airport. Delta Air Lines is launching new technology to help avoid lost luggage.

It's called radio frequency identification. The airline will still use disposable bag tags, but instead of hand-scanning each tag, workers will use radio waves to capture data stored on a chip embedded in the tag.

If your flight changes for any reason, that information is relayed to the chip. Customers will then be able to use the Delta mobile app to track their luggage.

Delta will start using the new technology at the end of May.
