24-Year-Old Killed In Fridley House Fire

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities say a man was found dead after a house fire in Fridley Tuesday night.

Fire crews responded to the 300 block of Hugo Street Northeast at around 8 p.m. after the homeowner called in the fire. It started in the kitchen and spread to the living room.

Three people made it out safely but the 4th was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom at the time of the fire. The 24-year-old man, identified as local Walmart manager Donley Wasserman, was found dead after the fire was put out.

Authorities say early indications suggest this was a cooking related fire.

"Don't try and carry a pan out of the house if you have a grease fire," Fridley Fire Chief John Berg said. "If you can't control the fire, don't have an extinguisher or residential fire suppression system, don't try and fight the fire, leave the home immediately and call 911."

The official cause of the fire is still being investigated.
