Deacon Re-Instated After No Validity Found In Abuse Allegations

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Catholic deacon removed from the ministry during a sexual abuse investigation has been reinstated.

An investigation was re-opened last June into whether Deacon Joseph Damiani had sexually abused a minor more than 40 years ago.

The deacon denied the claim.

On Sunday, Archbishop John Nienstedt said the Clergy Review Board found no validity to the allegations. And when the case was taken to police, no criminal charges were filed.

Damiani served as deacon at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis.
