Dayton's Proposal Includes $10 Million To Replace Planes

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton's budget proposal includes almost $10 million to replace two planes used for state employee travel.

The Democratic governor says the planes are aging and getting to be unsafe. He wants to sell them and replace them with new or nearly new models.

Dayton's budget proposal says planes typically spend about half their time in maintenance after 30 years of use. One of the current planes is 33 years old, the other is 21.

The proposal says air travel saves the state money because it lets employees spend less time driving and more time working.

Leaders in the state House and Senate will release their own two-year budget proposals in the next few months.
