Man Fatally Shot By Police After Domestic Dispute Call In St. Paul
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- St. Paul Police say officers shot and killed a man after he fired a gun at a woman in a home with five young children Thursday night.
According to St. Paul Police spokesperson Sgt. Mike Ernster, it started at around 6 p.m. after a 911 call from a woman on the 400 block of Earl Street.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the woman, who said a man fired two shots at her in a home nearby. She ran out of the home, uninjured, but said the children still inside with the shooter.
Ernster said responding officers made sure the children were safe and began searching for the man. At some point, the officers found him and fatally shot him. Ernster said paramedics tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful. They did find a gun at the scene.
Ernster couldn't say where exactly the shooting took place or where the gun was found, citing a pending independent investigation from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. He did say several of the officers involved in the incident were wearing body cameras, which were activated during the shooting.
Officers had been to the home twice in the past year, police said -- once on a disturbance call and once on a "drunkeness" call.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner will release the man's identity and cause of death.
