Dayton: Vikings' Peterson Reversal Is Right

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton says the Vikings' overnight decision to put running back Adrian Peterson on hiatus was the right move.

Less than 48 hours after a widely-criticized announcement that Peterson would rejoin the team while addressing a felony child-abuse charge, owners Mark and Zygi Wilf reconsidered and placed the team's star player on the exempt-commissioner's permission list. Peterson is accused in Texas of using a wooden switch to spank his 4-year-old son.

The initial decision to let Peterson play triggered rebukes from sponsors and politicians including Dayton, who called Peterson's actions an embarrassment.

In a Wednesday statement to The Associated Press, Dayton says the team's reversal was "the right decision."

A spokesman for the governor says Dayton did not speak with team owners about Peterson's status.
