Dayton Tours Mich. Mine In Lead Up To PolyMet Decision

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Before making a decision on a new Iron Range mine, Gov. Mark Dayton is seeing the best and worst of other operations.

PolyMet wants to open the state's first copper-nickel mine near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

Dayton toured the Eagle Mine in Michigan Friday. Supporters say the mine has effective environmental protections in place.

The governor was in South Dakota earlier this week to look at an abandoned gold mine that has caused extensive environmental damage.

The new mine could potentially add 350 new jobs and 600 more supporting jobs in surrounding communities.
