Dayton Picks A Date For State Of The State

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton still has some time to write his State of the State speech.

The governor's office on Friday announced he will deliver the annual address to the Legislature on the night of April 9. It comes just after lawmakers return from a spring recess.

It's the fifth State of the State speech for the two-term Democratic governor. This time he's calling to fund statewide preschool and pushing for a tax package to repair bridges and roads.

But Majority House Republicans will have a vastly different roadmap for how to piece together the state's budget. The House GOP is expected to unveil some of its own plans next week.
