Dayton Holds 2-to-1 Cash Edge Over GOP's Johnson

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Gov. Mark Dayton has a nearly two-to-one cash advantage over Republican challenger Jeff Johnson heading into Election Day.

Johnson raised more money than Dayton in the two-month period ending Sept. 16. But Dayton's larger cash stockpile plus a bigger infusion from the state's public campaign subsidy leaves the Democratic governor with nearly $1.7 million on hand compared to Johnson's $866,000.

Fundraising reports that cover the two-month period from mid-July to mid-September were due to be released Wednesday, but both candidates announced their fundraising totals on Tuesday.

Dayton's campaign has reserved more than $1 million in ads, as has the DFL party and outside Democratic groups. Johnson has said he hopes to be on air by month's end with his own ads.
