Dashcam Video Shows Train Colliding With Semitrailer In Northern Minn.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Video from the Minnesota State Patrol shows a serious collision on northern Minnesota train tracks.

The State Patrol sergeant's dashcam footage -- released by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety -- shows the final moments of a routine inspection of a semitrailer, as it pulls away into the road with a train crossing ahead. The driver seemingly ignores the flashing lights at the intersection as the train blares its horn.

After the collision, the train drags the truck about a quarter mile down the track, as the State Patrol sergeant follows to assess the damage. Officials say the 67-year-old driver only suffered a minor laceration near his eye, and was cited for failing to stop at a railroad crossing.

Authorities with the State Patrol say the video is a reminder for drivers to take train crossing regulations seriously, and to always pay attention to your surroundings.
