USDA: Frost Had Little Impact On Minnesota Corn Crop

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the recent frost has had little impact on Minnesota's corn crop.

The agency says in its weekly crop progress report for Minnesota that 65 percent of the state's corn crop is in good to excellent condition.

Farmers took advantage of six days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Sunday to wrap up corn planting and to plant nearly a fourth of the state's corn crop. Soybean planting is now 86 percent complete.

The USDA says reports from the southern parts of the state indicate that there are still some wet spots in the fields. But in many areas of Minnesota, farmers are hoping for a good soaking rain.

And rain is in the forecast for the coming week, with storms likely through Sunday.
