Crews Battle Large Fire At KinderCare Learning Center In Brooklyn Park, No Injuries Reported

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Firefighters battled large flames early Thursday morning at a daycare facility in the north metro.

The Brooklyn Park Fire Department says crews responded around 2 a.m. to a fire at the KinderCare Learning Center on the 7900 block of Xerxes Avenue North.

Firefighters arrived to find flames inside the building, which quickly became engulfed by the blaze. At one point, flames shot through three sides of the building, as well as the roof. The building appears to be a total loss.

A daycare less than a mile from the KinderCare facility is opening its doors to help families in need of child care.

"It's our communal obligation to make this as easy as possible for parents affected by the fire," Little Learning Academy executive director Brandon Young said.

Little Learning Academy in Brooklyn Park has limited spots available but is waiving registration fees and temporarily allowing drop-in care.

Governor Walz temporarily ordered k-12 schools to shut down but is allowing daycares and preschools to stay open,

To be considered for Little Learning Academy, families must submit an application and provide immunization records.

A spokesperson for the City of Brooklyn Park said no one was hurt in the fire.
