1 dies from injuries suffered in fire at Minneapolis triplex

1 hurt in Minneapolis house fire

MINNEAPOLIS -- A person injured in a fire at a Minneapolis triplex on Thursday afternoon has died.

Fire crews arrived at the scene on Barton Avenue Southeast on Thursday afternoon. The fire burned through the roof, and crews laid several lines and used two aerial water towers in an attempt to douse the flames.

One person was in the front yard with burns. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition. On Saturday morning, the Minneapolis Fire Department said they "succumbed to their injuries."

Fire officials believe the person was a painting contractor, as the third floor of the building was being renovated at the time.

A second alarm was called for extra crews and equipment. Residents on other floors were able to get out, officials said.

After several hours and extensive overhaul and water, crews were able to extinguish the fire.

The residence has been deemed uninhabitable.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
